"Who are you," continued I knew I wanted to write about business, and leadership, and things that could help people think and act in different ways. I had no idea how to get started doing this. At the suggestion of a friend, I went to a convention for The American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) which was being held in my then-home city of Atlanta. In a moment of naivete, I brought my advertising portfolio with me to the ASTD Business Expo, and went from table to table showing training executives my ads, asking "could you use this kind of thinking in your business?" The one guy who did NOT blow me off was a senior learning consultant for IBM. "Hmm. Let's talk," he said, flipping through my ad portfolio. That led to my role on a three-member team at IBM that developed an innovative, modular, team-training product we called "TeamPac." Broken into 26 short, "just in time" modules, I brought an adman's eye for selling to the ideas, and a copywriter's sense of clarity and fun. TeamPac was a worldwide smash - both inside IBM and, eventually, to other organizations as well. Next: Talking animals and learning theory.
